My dear Aunt EstherVery many thanks indeed for both your parcels one of which I got today and the other one I got two days ago. The socks are very useful as they seem to wear out so soon that you are always wanting new ones (you can read that in two ways, but what I mean is that I had got short of socks and was in want of new ones).We have just come out of the trenches and a good thing too. Up to the waist in mud.The cake is very good and so is the chocolate. What with that and coming out of the trenches I'm feeling far from depressed.I will write again soon.Your loving nephew Tom
