Wednesday 08 November 2023
The club has been informed of the death of Roger Brown on 08/11/2023

From Peter Fairman Bourn
November 1958 edition of school magazine - It clearly shows his sporting prowess. Not only was he Captain of School in his final year but won ‘colours’ in both rugby & cricket, the latter being his most outstanding sport. Under the main heading ‘CRICKET’, on page 12 Coach Mr Roger Lancaster writes glowingly about Roger plus the 1st XI Captain - Jan Daybell states…”During the past five seasons Roger has been an inspiration and a delight to many sides.” The remaining pages 13 to 15 are given over to full details of the results for season 1958, being the year Roger left HCS. It includes batting & bowling averages for the entire squad for that year. RBB topped the leader board reaching 338 runs across 11 innings, with an average of 33.80 that year. As a batter (can we still say Batsman?) Roger was usually selected to go in at No. 3 (First wicket down) but did make a contribution in the field by bowling over 90 overs taking 14 wickets at a cost of 210 runs. By comparison, his Captain Daybell (& School House room-mate) scored a modest 104 over 11 innings, placing him with an average of 10.40.
