We were informed of the passing of 'Carl' Murray. Peter Farman-Bourne writes of him"When I first met PJC in 2006, at one of our casual OHiL evening reunions in The Square Mile, he said he liked to be known by his third forename CARL, which was how we always addressed him at each subsequent London event he attended.Carl came from Putson, Hereford and by the time he reached the Sixth Form, had gained several ‘O’ & ‘A’ levels plus 2 ‘S’ levels, winning a distinction in Greek & Latin. PJC left HCS to go up to Oxford to study classics. Carl gained Half Colours in Cricket in 1953 & 1954 finishing up with Full Colours in his final year – season 1954/55. Apart from becoming a House Monitor, then a School Monitor, Carl was also appointed Head of West House and eventually Captain of School. He took part in many extra-curricular activities, clubs & societies, Carl was a GILBERT Librarian and sub-editor of The Herefordian. Academically speaking, he had already won several Speech Day prizes, finishing up gaining a State Scholarship (Domus Exhibition) to Brasenose College, Oxford. After marrying his lovely wife Carol, they lived in Loughton, Essex before he finally retired and in about 2015 they moved to a smaller property in Coggeshall. "Carl is in the right in the photo.
