Wednesday 19 October 2022
The Club has been informed of the death of Brian Goode on 20th October 2022. Brian was Groundsman at Wyeside for 28 Years. From the OH Magazine 2005 on Brians retirement from HCS ............. Brian Goode joined HCS in 1979. He approaches life with a twinkle in his eye, so the format of his interview gave a hint of what was to follow; a well-respected amateurgroundsman, working in insurance, he arrived for an interview thinking the headwanted to buy an insurance policy and left having been appointed HCS groundsmanl He transformed Wyeside into one of the top sports grounds in the county. Itis not only HCS pupils who should be grateful to Brian, but also many outsidesporting organizations who have benefited greatly from excellent wickets for countymatches and the finals of numerous cup competitions for all age groups.Tim LoweChairman HerefordshireSchools' Cricket Association
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of our head groundsman Brian Goode last year. Brian came to H.C.S. in 1978 and spent 30+ very happy years at Wyeside. He was a much loved and respected member of school staff and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He enjoyed every aspect of his work and treated everyone either Prince or Pauper with the same respect. His dedication of preparing the wickets at Wyeside made for the best in the county.Brian was a great cricketer, he was captain of Canon Frome cricket team 1sts for many years. He also ran the Herefordshire over 50’s cricket team. At H.C.S. he had a keen interest in a variety of sports, he was a much valued coach for the second 11’s and in his retirement he took up golf with great relish and excelled at it.
