The Hereford Times reporte “We deeply regret to announce the death of Capt WL Carver, Herefordshire Regiment, younger son of Mt T Carver of Meyrick House, Meyrick Street, Whitecross Hereford, ex-aldeman and Chairman of the Hereford City and County Constitutional Club. The sad news came as a big blow to the family and a wide circle of friends, and the sympathy of all classes will be extended to the deceased officer’s father, his brother, Capt Frank Carver and his three sisters, one of whom is the wife of Capt Frank Dixon, who is also serving abroad.
Capt WL Carver was one of the brave band who have and are still upholding the good name of Herefordshire as a strong fighting unit of the British Army. Posessed of a striking personality and wonderful spirits, he was a delightful companion and a fine athlete and sportsman in the truest sense of the word. When he answered “the call” he was on the threshold of a successful career as a lawyer. He was educated at Hereford Cathedral School and afterwards articled to Messess Gwynne James and Son, solicitors of Hereford for nearly three years. He then became associated with Nessrs Lupton and Fawcett of Leeds and subsequently with N Messes Baker and Lillington solicitors of Weston Super Mare.
